The future of live music.
You might have seen how I’ve been promoting this concert which is coming up on March 25th. Let me tell what this is all about, because it’s a completely new live music concept that will change everything. I’ve been playing live music in Lembongan for a while now. It’s always fun and amazing times, but if you know me a little, you’d know how I’m continuously looking for new things to do. Create something different, change things around and push against the status quo. It makes life more exciting to me. A few weeks ago, I was driving past this venue called DeCountry Bar, here on the island. I noticed how they had taken down the wall to their adjacent building which used to be a small night club. Without this wall their entire venue suddenly doubled in size. I was excited because it’s a really nice, big and open space now. Their venue has a stage for live music in the front near the road side. After they finished the new layout of the place, they also build another stage inside more in the back. The two stages are facing each other and not too far apart. My first thought was, how cool it was two have another stage, but how useless to have two stages that close together. You won’t be able to play on both stages at the same time because the bands would interfere with each other. Anyways, I was happy to see what they did to the place.
A few days later I was hanging out with my friend Sarah. We were looking to chill and get some coffee. However, we couldn’t find anybody to score coffee from. Sarah ended up talking to her friend who is living on our neighboring island, Nusa Penida. She said, her friend is inviting us to come over for the best coffee ever.
Ok, I have to drop some important information here. I’ve been living on Lembongan for almost seven years now. Nusa Penida is just a ten minutes boat ride away, but I had never gone. I have dived all around the islands over a thousand times but never actually been on Penida island. A few times I had planned to go, but it never ended up happening.
Back to me, Sarah and the coffee invitation. Sarah said, we could get coffee in Penida. The next boat leaves in 10 min, at 3pm. The last boat back is at 5pm. So, we decided to go. Jumped on the scooter, drove to the beach and arrived just when the boat was ready to leave. Off we went.
All of our three islands here have a very strong and powerful energy around them. One time I actually set foot on Penida for a few seconds. We dropped off a diver at Toyapakeh beach. I jumped off onto the sand and straight back onto the boat. Just so I could say I touched the Island. Anyways, that was more like a little foreplay, but today I was gonna put the tip in. Still on the boat over I was thinking how something incredibly powerful was gonna happen when I get there. When we arrived, we jumped on a scooter and drove to Sarah’s friends dive shop. Less than 10 minutes away. The energy was just building and concentrating. At the dive shop everybody was just chilling, having coffee and a guy named Mowgli was restringing his guitar. We hang out, hit a coffee ourselves and started jamming with the boys. Amazing vibe. The hole time I was on such a high. Two hours later, we are driving back to the beach. Just a quickie with Penida. In and out. On the way back Sarah and I were sitting in the front of the boat and let the wind blast through our heads. In that moment it struck me.
‘What’s the point of having two stages so close together?’
Well, just put musicians on both stages and let them make music t o g e t h e r.
1 Band, 2 Stages and the crowd in-between, enclosed by music. Holy shit. I’ve never seen that before. It’s a whole new experience, not just for the crowd but also for the musicians involved. Musical communication across the crowd to another stage. Get the crowd involved and let the music run free.
I knew something powerful was gonna happen visiting Nusa Penida…
It’s a few weeks later now and everything is in the planning. Musicians from Lembongan, Penida and Bali are applying to perform and people are buying tickets to see the craziness (BTW, wanna -->perform? Wanna buy a -->ticket).
I have no idea how it’s actually gonna go down that night. All I know is, I will be the best fun ever. We just gotta do it, put ourselves out there, take a risk and see where it goes. Let the music speak, connect and spread the love.
Please buy a ticket, tell everybody you know about this concert and become part of an amazing new experience.
I’m so excited to see all of you there.
Never stop creating.
